Don't Lose Hope

Topic:  Don't Lose Hope

Reading: Luke 5: 4-6

Memory Verse: Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 6: 5

When I was preparing for my driving test, there was a sentence that the driving instructor kept using continuously. This sentence made a friend of mine give up on manual lessons and to pursue automatic transmission lessons instead. The sentence was “Half clutch up, give gas”.

My driving instructor used this sentence so much to the point that it got quite frustrating especially when making a left/right turn. Few months down the line, I passed our driving test, me with a manual car and a friend of mine passed too, an automatic transmission car. This friend got given a company car for his achievements at work and guess what, it was a manual transmission. He had to take manual lessons all over again, something he had avoided because it was too stressful.

If we look at the story in Luke 5: 4-6, Jesus instructed Peter, an experienced fisherman, to catch fish but out of experience, Peter answered: “Master, we have been trying all night”. Please note that the best time to catch fish is not during the daytime but at night (don’t mind me, I’ve seen too many fishing documentaries and now I feel like a fisherman). Out of his own years of personal experience, he’d given up hope of ever catching anything that day and even wanted to lecture Jesus on the intricacies of fishing but at the last moment, he changed his tone and refused to give up. And do you know what happened afterwards? They enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.

So

  • Don’t allow your acquired knowledge misdirect you against the plan and purpose of God for your life.

  • Unless God has told you to give up (which He never will), DO NOT GIVE UP not even if you’re going through what might seem like the hardest thing in the world.

  • Keep working at what you’re doing, there’s always a time and season for everything.

This new year don't give up, last year may not have gone as you wished but trust God, knowing he

knows what he is doing and he is right there with you.

Reflection

Consider the things you've given up on? Can you still put your trust and hope in God to achieve them? Read and reflect on; Proverbs 3:5-6

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your plan and will for my life. Thank you because everything will fall into place at the exact time for me. In Jesus name! Amen.
