Identity in Christ

Topic:  Identity in Christ

Reading: Jeremiah 1

Memory Verse: I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations

Jeremiah 1:5

Belonging to Jesus, knowing who you are in Christ and having an intimate relationship with Him , changes the way in which you view yourself and others. This helps you to have a deep understanding of God and who He has called you to be: by studying His word.

Our identity focuses on who we are, the way in which we think about ourselves, our characteristics as individuals and the way we think. Furthermore, identity investigates the way you are viewed by the world.  As we study Jeremiah 1:5 – “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. The Lord gave us this message to make us understand that our identities are unique.  We are all called to serve in different areas and capacities.

Some of us define our identity in what we do or the jobs that we have. For others, our identity has been altered by the experiences were have faced, whether its failure, the voices of other people opinions or rejection. We need to understand that our identity is not tied to what you do or what society thinks of you.

As children of God, we need to refuse for our identity to be distorted by our experiences. We need to focus on living our lives on how God sees us and no longer feel the need to find our worth in our external circumstances. Our identity should solely be focused on who God has called us to be.

The only way we can understand who we are is by building an intimate relationship with Him.

Today, God wants us to have a close, personal relationship with Him which is focused on intimacy and obedience. He wants us to come to Him and be open, vulnerable, and honest with Him about our struggles in understanding who we are.

Reflection

Take this time to reflect on the truths of who  you are.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You knew me while I was in my mother's womb. Help me to meditate

on your word and focus on the truths that You say about me in Your Word

Amen!
