The Atonement

Atonement

Depending on your cultural background the title of this blog may makes you reminisce, there is a very popular song that I am sure is sang in 99.5% of Nigerian churches, I am also sure that it is known by most of the Nigerian population (Gloria et al 2019). The lyrics are written below: " there is power, power wonder working power in the blood of the Lamb the is power power wonder working power in the precious blood of the Lamb"

This song is sang cyclically, over and over again. it is a song drummed into us from childhood but do we truly understand the gravity of what we sing? what is the wonder working power in the blood of the lamb?

How do we access such power?

John 3:16 New International Version (NIV) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Access to this power is straight forward, believe Jesus to be your saviour and deliverer and that's it! Why was the blood needed in the first place?... Before Jesus there was a BIG issue: Hebrews 10:1 - 4 English Standard Version (ESV) 1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshippers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? 3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

The Israelites before Christ came offered sacrifices time after time, year after year because of their sins, this did 3 things 1. it reminded them of their sins - they were always reminded of the distance between themselves and God 2. It could not take their sins away because it is IMPOSSIBLE for the "blood of bulls and goats to take sins away" 3. It did not please God.

Hebrews 10:6 English Standard Version (ESV) 6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Why is this significant? ( wait I am getting there, this is where MY SUPER HERO Comes in.. ) ONE PERSON ONE SACRIFICE ONE BLOOD ONCE AND FOR ALL AND HIS NAME IS JESUS CHRIST!

Hebrews 10:14 New International Version (NIV) 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. Guys, Guys deep this...(ponder upon this), ONCE AND FOR ALL, this BLOOD has wiped away the sins of not 1, not 2 but the whole of humanity those here and yet to come. ALL 7 billion of us ONCE and for all. Its a mad ting ( it's beyond human comprehension) The blood of Jesus makes perfect those who draw near to worship. There is the warped perception that most of us (yes us Christians) can't seem to shake off and this is especially true at the beginning of our Christian walk, it is the perception that first I most e perfect before I come before God. I must sort myself out first , this is completely contrary to the word of God as demonstrated y the flowing verses.

Ephesians 2: 8-9 [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9]Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Please pay attention to verse 9 ( lest any man should boast) the blood of Jesus gives us access to grace and faith, we are always toiling to fix ourselves first before coming before our father but the truth is if it was by works our human nature would try to take the glory. The depth of power in the blood can't be effectively explored in one log post alone that's why you have 2 more to look forward to if there is anything i want you to take away from this first post its that you have been redeemed and all your sins have been wiped away by the blood of Jesus Christ. You no longer have to deal with that negative habit or addiction yourself, remember Jesus's last words:

John 19:20 New King James Version (NKJV) 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
